Food Science & Technology's 2021 Outstanding Senior -  Rachel Mawn

Rachel Mawn

During her time at Virginia Tech, Rachel Mawn has served as Food Science Club president, Campus Kitchen delivery leader, assistant in the VT Sensory Evaluation Laboratory, Big Event Fundraising Committee member, and now is on the Board of Directors for the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association. And she did it all while pursuing dual degrees in Food Science and Biological Sciences. Her work as a Foodie and a Hokie has been nothing short of inspiring and that's exactly why we're proud to call her our Outstanding Senior for 2021! Read more about Rachel's accomplishments here.

One Last Get-Together

Determined to give its graduating seniors one last opportunity to get together in person after a year of online courses and Zoom meetings, FST organized a pop-up gathering outside the food science building the week before commencement and invited students to come say goodbye to their professors, chat with their fellow graduates, and pick up some class giftboxes (all while following COVID safety guidelines of course).

"I love FST because the willingness of everyone within the department to help everyone as a whole succeed is substantial. I couldn't have done it without all the support I received from my colleagues and professors."
