Research programs have focused on improving the efficiency of unit processing operations in fish and shellfish firms. Also, projects have been implemented on the biological and chemical safety of fresh and processing products. Program activities have also addressed improved product quality, product development, and resource conservation. An interdisciplinary research program, CFAST, has been established with faculty in the Colleges of Engineering, Natural Resources, and Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
